Ideas for my Music Video

Arctic Monkeys - Brainstorm

From this music video I like how the band are shown, I would like to used shots of the band from this music video and interpret it to my music video. I also like the fact that the band are not shown from the front view, they are only shown from behind. This creates mystery and makes the viewer eager to find out what the band look like so they would watch the rest of the music video to find who the band members are or research the band. I also think that this technique would be good for me to use as it would not require a great deal of lip synchronisation and thus making it easier to film and edit.

Below are my ideas for my music video:

  • Show the band playing in a dark low light room and candles surrounding the band. I would also have the candles in different coloured glasses so that there is a variety of colour to light up the room from the dark room that the band is in. I would also have small lamp or spot lights to light up the face of the members of the band when they start to sing of when they play the instruments. This would be done so that the audience can see the band from the dark room.
  • As the song starts the band would be first shown standing together with their instruments in hand ready to starts. At this point I would have a smoke machine surrounding where they band are standing so that it gives an eerie atmosphere at the start of the music video and would show their mysterious attitude as a band.
  • I would have the whole music video filmed in a sepia tone and low saturation so that it is not completely black and white but there is a little of colour shown so that it music video is not too dark. This would also give an eerie effect to the audience, making the audience wanting to know what the band look like to they are engaged by the start of the music video.
  • Furthermore, I would also have a green laser light to break up the darkness in the music video and it would also go the electric keyboard elements of the song.
  • Have unusual objects hanging from the ceiling such as teddy bears, manikins’ dolls. To show the bands quirky attitude and style.
  • At the start of the music video, I could have a low or high angle shot of the band the drums, guitars and the microphone. At this point I could also have the camera propped on a wheel cart with all the instruments, to show the audience where they are going and I could also make the audience want to find out where they are going.
  • I could have a shot of them smoking when they are not performing, to give a grungy attitude for the band and also create a band identity, and to state to their audience that they are not a pop genre they are gypsy punk genre.
  • Also have a shot of the band backstage in black and white to show what they do in their spare time other than creating music. This would create a fan relationship with the band as their fans may aspire or admire by what they do outside creating music. This would also reflect the way they dress and their image that they sell to their fans.
  • I may also have a shot of the band members messing about and wheeling each other on shopping trolleys, to show their youthful side.
  • To show their audience that they are not young, they have reached an age where it is legal to drink, I would show beer bottle hanging from the ceiling. In a slow motion shot, I could show one of the members smashing the bottle with a baseball bat, to show that they are not young kids; they are young men, with a slight adolescence and aggression inside them.
  • Moreover, at the start of the music video, I could also have the band turn their heads in line with the beat of the music, from left to right. This would give a different dimension to the music video and it would also show their quirky attitude.  At this point, I would also have the screen change colour from red, blue and green, but I would have the colour faint so that you can still see the band. These dark royal colours are also common with what grungy people wear.
  • During the instrumental of the song, I may show the drummer bashing the drums and have water in his hair and on the drums, so when he is playing the water will drip from his face and splash onto the drums. I would also have this shot in slow motion to give a slowed affect and so that the audience can see the water splashing everywhere. This would also create a different image of how we normally see water.
  • At the start of the music video, I could also have a shot of the camera focusing and an unfocused on the candle flickering. To show that the band is dark and mysterious, they also light the spiritual side by having candles around them as they play. I could also have the candles in different coloured glass to give out different colours as the band is playing other than a dim light.
  • Another film style is t take loads of photographs of the movement of the band to give a jerky effect and it would also go with the beat of my chosen song.
  • Furthermore, to keep the grungy style of the band, I would make sure that they have a thick black stud in their ear, and designer brands such as, Doc Martins, Fred Perry, and American Apparel. These are all typical brands that are associated with grungy looking people and would also show they band identity of how they would be seen in the public eye. By showing their style and matching it with the genre of their song would also reflect the type of audience their fans would be like; they would have a similar dress sense as the band members.
  • In addition with my ideas for my music video, I could have quick shots of girls sitting beside a wall or the toilet with make-up smudges down their face, to show the fiasco that they are going through and would also reflect what the song is about. These quick shot would be shown during the chorus and it would fade into the shot of the band.

Lyrics to my final chosen song

Fiasco by Edelweiss

It makes us faster (repeated 2x)
Behind walls, that collapse
In fifteen year in years
We loose control.

It's fiasco, nowhere to go
The suns going down and we our world
Its fiasco, nowhere to go
The suns going down and we our world
Its fiasco, nowhere to go
The suns going down and we our world
Its fiasco, nowhere to go
The suns going down and we our world.

Red hot, red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, end on
In other words, we're gone
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood we are
And not to us

We...will...not...go (repeated 7x)
We will never, be alone

It makes us stronger (repeated 2x)
The heart be formed to sound
And that provokes
And we all know.

Instrumental
Ohhhh.............

Red hot, red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, end on
In other words, we're gone
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood, we come
And not to us, we move on
Red hot red blood we are
And not to us

I prefer this song over my first song choice; Karolina by The Scandal, because the genre is easier and quirkier to work with. I have found that my ideas fit more neatly and correspond with this song more neatly than the other chosen song.

For the music video of this song I want to have the camera focusing and going out of focus on a flickering candle and a picture type Lego model moving in a robot type action and also have photograph type images of a Jenga tower being built at the start of the music video. I want the photographs to be sped up into fast motion so the each one flows one after the other and so that the viewer can see a gradual change. Furthermore because these will be photographs, I would fade each individual photograph into the other so when the video is being played it will be smooth and not jerky. Due to the quirky style of the band members and the genre also being unusual and quirky, I would therefore want my music video to portray the style of the band member by keeping it quirky and have wired images or objects floating around the band for example, have dolls, manikins hanging from the ceiling or in some scenes I would have the band members wear curly wigs and teddy bear heads or make them wear wired character costumes such as bugs bunny outfit.

Through the middle of the song and the chorus, I would have one of the band members, the lead singer, to be the main character in the music video because he is the main person in the song as he sings the lyrics. I would have a tent set out in a forest and have handheld camera movements of him wondering through the woods to show the "fiasco" he is in. A this point, I would also have other band members wondering through the woods to give and mysterious atmosphere to the music video and to also emphasis the topic of the song "fiasco".

Furthermore, to emphasise the lyrics of the song "fiasco", I would have a few shots of girls with smudged make-up, to have it so that they look as though they are upset and have just been crying. To give an eerie effect, I would have to edit these photographs onto photo shop and then put them onto imovie as photographs in order to include them into the music video.

I would also have close up shots of the band playing each individual instrument and a few shot of lip synchronisation, but not a great deal because I want the music video to portray a story of people being lost and confused to show the viewers what the song is about and the "fiasco" behind the song.

Below is my chosen song of which I have written the lyrics for above:

Contact with Edelweiss - Second chosen band

Above, I have done a screen shot to show the email that I composed to send to my chosen band Edelweiss, in which I concider to create a music video for their song, "Fiasco"

Below, I have also done ascreen shot to show the email of responce from the band Edelweiss. The email confirms my desire to create a music video for their song, "Fiasco". They have also politely written the lyrics down on the email of responce to save my own research for their song.

My final Chosen Band - Edelweiss

Band members:
Coby Porlier - Drums
Thomas Vitale - Bass guitar and vocals
Niko Porlier - Guitar and Vocals
Tony Young - Guitar
Jupiter Cashman - Key boards and other percussion instruments

Genre: Chinese Pop / Gypsy Punk
Hometown: Stroudsburg, PA, USA
Websites: http://edelweissofficial.bandcamp.com/

They have been in the band together for two years. The two brothers Coby and Niko started to create music together and they met the others at school and from friends of friends.

Their influence comes from a range of music artists such as Beirut, Battles, Yourself, Air and Bloc Party.

Played in many shows in New York and played in Venues and clubs.

I have chosen this band because I think that their music is easy to work with due to the electronic keyboard beats plus the song is upbeat and not slow so it will engage the viewers of the music video entertained. I also think that their songs are easy to work with to create a music video.

Below are their songs in which I consider to create a music video:

Fiasco by Edelweiss

No by Edelweiss

Icarus by Edelweiss

By listening to the songs that my chosen band has produced, there are a few artists and bands who have a similar style to them in they way they play the guitars, drums or the beat of the song. In my opinion, I think the style and genre of music is similar to a band called "Two Door Cinema Club"
Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

I think that the beat of this song and the use oif guitars is similar to the song that I have chosen from Edelweiss. Due to this I may also look at Two Door Cinema's music videos to gain inspiration for narrative, costume ideas and editing movements for my own music video.

Why I have changed my song

When I first chose my song, Karolina by The Scandal, I first thought that it would be good to work with because it is easy to sing along to, and so it would make it easier for my chosen band members to mime along with the song. However, whilst listening to the song over and over again, the song was hard to make it interesting for the audience. This was mainly due to the slow beginning of the song. I also found that my ideas where better then the song and so it did not suit the way the song was sang and how slow the lyrics are, but I did like the instrumental after the chorus and at the end of the song was good, because I was also to include loads of shots of the band. However, due to the long chorus, it was hard to include loads of shots that would be interesting for the viewer because I kept on repeating the shots that I made before.

My new song is Fiasco by Edelweiss which has more beats and the instrumental at the start is a good way to get the audience engaged to the music video. I also prefer how there is not much lyrics which is good when it comes for my chosen band to mime the lyrics of the song.

Music director of my choice - Marc Klasfeld

Marc Klasfeld is an American music video director; he has also directed and written commercials, independent films and documentaries. Klasfeld has directed over 200 music videos for famous artists such as Jay-Z, Kid Rock, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and many more. His videos have established his own unique style. He is also a television commercial director for brands such as Nike, Reebok and cartoon network. His work mainly attracts rock and rap artists due to his unique blends of humour which make each video he produces something that has not been seen before.

March 29th 2010 Klasfeld released a viral video of a mock-elementary school play entitled 'Scarface School Play'. The viral video received over 2 million within 24 hours, making it the most popular viral of all times plus generating attention from major network companies such as Fox News, ABC, CNN and CBS.

Scarface School

Why did Marc Klasfeld create this video?

The inspiration behind this video came from his previously made humorous videos such as Hammer Pants Dance. Whilst creating the video he was unaware that it would become huge.

The Play used young children acting as adults this made the video funny to watch. Initially the video as written for a TV show but it never got made so instead Klasfeld decided to create the video on his own. There was no controversial issue caused from the parents of the children, they thought that it was a good idea and they wanted their children to become actors and actresses.

His well-known commercial work are Hammer Pants Dance for the A&E Networks reality show, Hammer time; Avril Lavigne's canon campaign and Smirnoff's Green Tea Party viral video sang by Sebastian Siegel. Klasfeld was also the founder of Rockhard, a production company that also houses directors such as Ray Kay, Tony Pertrossian, Sarah Chartfield and Steve Jocz.

I have chosen to evaluate Monarchy of Roses By Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music video. I have chosen this music video because I like the concept of the video and the drawing techniques which are included in the video.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Manarchy of Roses

Klasfeld has previously worked with them before directing "The adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" one of their successful music videos. The project came about by the band giving Klasfeld their song to work on and come up with a concept for their music video. The video uses the artwork of Raymond Pettiton which gives the music video an animated feel showing a new dimension in the way music videos are performed. Throughout the music video it consists of black and white images and the band are also shown in black and white except for the roses which are coloured in red. This theme enhances their genre of rock punk and further highlights their image of a rock band. Their image also plays an important role in this music video as it creates a band identity where the public can instantly identify what their genre of music is and their main target audience of people who are interested in rock music and are in the age boundaries of 16-late 20's. I think their target audience when it comes to age is varied because the band formed in 1983 and so the people who are in their late 20's would still be hard core fans now. However, people of a young age may also be fans of the band because the band is constantly releasing new songs and adding modern influences to it.

The filming of this music video took place on October 4th 2011 and was shot on a green screen which they took stills of Pettibon's work plus the footage of the band and edited them together, this process was done repeatedly until eventually they ended up with "the perfect music video". The music video was released on the band's website, Facebook page and their YouTube channel. The music video was released on November 14th 2011. As this is a new music video it has not yet been nominated for awards. On the other hand the song itself made it 4th place on the Canada Alternative Rock Charts.

From this video, I would like to use it as inspiration for my own music video. I think that the variety of camera angles and the jerky movement of the band have made this video unique.

Above the tilt camera angle gives it a quirky aspect. Plus the low angle shot draws attention to the lead singer. From this music video I also like how it is all filmed in black and white. I think that this also emphasises the genre and theme of rock in the music.

Art is used in the music video to illustrate what the portrayal of the song is. I also think that the art helps to give the music video a rocky look because it is drawn in block outline and not much shading making it stand out from the white background.

A long shot show the band together playing the drums, guitar. However, the lead singer is singing but there is no microphone stand in front of him. This part of the video was filmed of a rotating board so there was no need for the camera crew to go around the band, the band rotated in front of them. Some parts of the video make it obvious that the band is on a rotating board because the lead singer walks backwards but he stays in the same spot he was before. I like the idea of the rotating board and would like to use it in my music video.

The use of words in the music video do not say what the lead singer is singing but helps to emphasis the story of the music video.

Another music video directed by Marc Klasfeld is Last Friday Night by Katy Perry. I have chosen to analyse this music video because it is a different genre to what I have analysed so far and it would be interesting to pick out what is different about this video which sets it out from the rest and places it in the genre of pop.

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night

Klasfeld has previously worked with Katy Perry in 3OH!3's music video 'Starstrukk' and so he know that she could pull of comedy. The location of the video was shot at Dukes of Hazzard' actor John Schneider's house, Klasfeld said "That added a special spirit to the piece...with all this classic 'Dukes of Hazzard' stuff up on the walls". The inspiration for the video came from Sixteen Candles a film work by John Hughes who was a film maker back in the 80's and 90's.

Perry's image in the video came from 80's style with neon colours and swirly graphics. The costume itself was inspired by the character Betty Suarez played by America Ferrera in the series Ugly Betty. Perry is first shown as a geek, who is unsociable and not many people want to become her friend because of her appearance. Perry has used this costume before the video was made on 2010 Teen Choice Awards. The video also features famous faces such as Rebecca Black and Kenny G. The music video was released on Perry's YouTube profile on June 4th 2011. The song reached 1st position on the Billboard Hot 100 charts on August 27th 2011.

When Perry decides to join the party, her friend Rebecca Black, transforms her from geek to 80's neon coloured chick.

The layout of the music video is set out like a typical American film with the title of the song on top of a location shot with a slight calm, happy music in the background. Characters names are also shown at the beginning as as well. The end of the music video, like a film the deleted scenes are shown along with all the people who were involved in the music video. This layout makes it different from the other music videos Katy Perry has done and also different from other music video by other artists.

Low angle shot of inside the house party shows the extent of the mess that was created. This is done so that Perry's target audience of mainly the young generation can relate to this as they may regularly go to house parties.

During the instrumental in the song, a band is shown playing which is synchronised with the song. This technique is similar to the music videos of indie rock music where they show the band playing instruments along with the music.

Music video director - Michel Gondry

Gondry was born on 8th of May 1963 in Versailles, France. Gondry was a successful music and commercial director. His family was heavily influence by pop music; however, when he was young he wanted to be a painter or an inventor. During the 80’s he went to an art school in Paris where he could develop his graphic skills further into his intended field. Over there he met some friends whom created a pop-rock band called Oui-Oui. The band released 2 albums ('Chacun tout le monde' and 'Formidable') but the band separated in 1992. Gondry was the drummer of the band, he also directed their video clips. From there, it was possible to see what his new interest was. Influenced by the 60’s and his childhood, one of his music videos was shown on to MTV where Björk was inspired by it and asked him if he could make her first solo video (‘Human Behaviour’) Their partnership was famous as he directed five other music videos for her. As his career became successful it led to commissions from other artists around the world wanting Gondry to direct their music videos, including Massive Attack. He also directed a lot of advertisement video clips for brands such as Smirnoff, Gap, Air France, coca-cola, Nike, Polaroid and Levi.

As Gondry became successful, Hollywood started to pay interest in his work; he directed his first feature movie Human Nature in 2001, adapting a Charlie Kaufman’s scenario which was shown at the Cannes Festival in 2001. In contrast, the film was not successful, this film allowed Gondry to direct Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 2004.

Human Behaviour - Björk
Above is one of the first music videos, Gondry have done for their collaboration with Björk. Personally, I am not particularly interested with the style of the music video and so I will not use this video as an inspiration for my own music video. I have put this on to show how Gondry has progressed through the years of directing music videos. Moreover, this would have been taken within the first few years of when Björk hit fame. So her singing techniques are not preferred by most.
Crystalline - Björk

This is another music video that Gondry has directed for Björk. This is a more resent music video and so it shows this through the amount of computer graphics that have been put in. The song was written by Björk herself and the producers were Raffi Adlan and Joel Kretschman. The directors for the animation were Peter Sluszka. The video was recorded on May 26th 2011, and premiered on You Tube July 26th 2011. As usual, the song was released earlier then the music video on June 28th 2011. The lyrics to the song talk about the process of Crystallization in materials and rocks, but metaphorically it comes from a more personal view, relating to growth of crystal structures with the growth of relationships. Björk took the inspiration for the song from cities and buildings "seems like each one of them has a different mood, different spatial tension or release". In her own words it briefly describes her decision for the song and so reflects her ideas for the music video.

Fell in Love with a girl - The White Stripes

Above was another successful music video directed by Gondry in 2002. The song is by an American Garage Rock band which was written and produced by Jack White. It was for the bands third album "White Blood Cells". The music video is a LEGO animation featuring Gondry's son at the beginning of the video, building LEGO blocks. It was shot frame by frame with each frame having the LEGO bricks rebuilt, in a complex manner to seem as if it were an actual shot, and then formed together to give the illusion of motion. The video won three MTV Video Music Awards in 2002: Breakthrough Video, Best Special Effects, and Best Editing. It also received a nomination for Video of the Year, but lost out to Eminem's "Without Me". Pitchfork Media deemed it the best video of the decade. And finally Entertainment Weekly included it on its end-of-the-decade, "best-of" list, saying, "An idea so simple it's a wonder no one thought of it before 2002.

Music video director - Spike Jonze

He is an American director, producer and actor who was born on October 22 1969 in Rockville, Maryland USA. His work includes music videos, commercials, films and television. He is best known for his collaborations with writer Charlie Kaufman including the 1999 film “Being John Malkovich" and the 2002 film "Adaptation", and for his work as director of the 2009 film “Where the Wild Things are”. He is well known also for his music video collaborations with Weezer, Beastie Boys, and Bjork. He was also a co-creator and executive producer of MTV's "Jackass." He is currently the creative director of VBS.tv. Jonze also is the part owner of skateboard company “Girls Skateboards” with riders Rick Howard and Mike Carroll.

In 1998 Jonze directed "Praise you" by Fatboy Slim, this was a Torrance Public Film Production from the album "You've Come a Long Way, Baby. The song was released on 4th January 1999 in the United Kingdom and on the 16th February 1999 in the United States of America. The genre of this song is Big beat and Alternative Rock. While the length of the album version is 5:23 minutes, the radio edit is shortened to 3:24 minutes. This would have been done because the song consists of a few lines being repeated over a beat and would eventually become less entertaining after a few plays. It was also shortened on the radio edit so that there is less time used up on the radio as they have certain time slots that they will have to follow by and they can’t afford to lose by having long songs. The record label of the UK song is called Skint and the US label is called Astralwerks. On the US billboard Hot 100 charts the song made 36 in the 1999 charts and in the UK it was number 1 on the singles charts 1999. Jonze stared in the music video with the dance with the fictional Torrance Community Dance group, the video shows them dancing to the song "Praise you". Jonze has also produced "The Rockafella Skank" but he was unable to work with him in the music video.

In analysis to this music video; this is unique with the effect to make it seem as though it was taken on the spur of the moment due to the hand held camera and having other onlookers in the background and of the side of the camera. The video its self makes bad dancers look good, as this was done deliberately to make it look more natural and not staged. The video was taken after Fatboy Slim's performance at the Mayan Theatre in LA. They filmed it outside a Westwood theatre with The Torrance Community Dance Group, theatre managers and the appearance of unscheduled bouncer's, as was a break dancing Michael Jackson impersonator (but he was cut from the video). This was all taken in one take under 10 minutes. The video is an expanded version of Spike Jonze's (Video Guru behind Weezer's "Buddy Holly," Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," and the Chemical Brothers' song called "Electrobank") video for "Rockafeller Skank". The video was filmed as joke showing a video tape of Jonze dancing on Hollywood Boulevard.
Spike Jonze has also worked with many other music artists in directing their music videos. Kanye West is another example where Jonze has co-directed the video with Kanye West. Whilst searching for this song I have found three different versions to this song, one of them being the official music video. I thought that it was unusual for them to create three different versions.

When searching for the music video, on youtube they say that this above is the official music video for flashing lights by Kanye West.

This song was released on November 22nd 2007 for Kanye West's Third album "Graduation". The song it's self was co-produced by Eric Hudson and featuring the R&B singer Dwele, as well as having additional vocals provided by Connie Mitchell from Sneaky Sound System. The genre is Hip hop / R&B with a length of about 3-4 minutes long. The record labels for this artist or song is by both Roc-a-Fella and Def Jam. The cover of the single was designed by a Japanese pop artist, Takashi Murakami. This video was co-directed by Jonze along with West and produced by Jonathan Becker and Joshua Greenberg from the Bucks Boys Productions.

In total three separate music videos were made for the song "Flashing Lights". The third music video was first unveiled for an audience of 200 guests at the Entertainment Weekly Grammy Awards after-party on February 10th, 2008. It was intended to be shown at BET on February 13th, 2008, but it was subsequently pulled from the schedule. West decided to premiere the video onto his official blog the same day. The first and official music video for "Flashing Lights" was filmed entirely in slow-motion and was set at dusk in the desert outside Las Vagas, Nevada. The woman shown is a playboy model, Rita. Kanye is shown tied up in the boot of the car. As the camera pans out, the woman get a shovel from the side of the car boot and it shows her repeatedly stabbing Kanye. This shot is not shown close up because it would be too gruesome for the viewers. The video then abruptly cuts to the words "Flashing Lights" written in red letters against a black background before ending over a minute earlier than the album version is the song.

The second video for the single leaked into the internet on May 23rd, 2008 casting the UK model Charlotte Carter-Allen as a young woman who becomes overwhelmed by the New York Nightlife. This version of the music video was listed number 2 on the Viral Video Charts on May 30th. The third video was voted as 11th best music video of 2008 by Rolling Stone and Pitchfork Media voted the same version as 15th best music video of the decade. Following these releases, West clarified on his official blog that he did not release two other videos worldwide on the internet. He had produced more than one version for common practice and only selected the one he was happiest with; the rest must have been leaked by someone else.

Animatic for my First Chosen Song

Karolina by The Scandal

I first chose this song from The Scandal because the jazz, indie, pop elements were, in my opinion, easy to work with. The lyrics to the song clearly stated what the song is about. The storyline of the song is about a girl who the lead singer loves but his friends tell him that she is not worth it. In my animatic I have put long and close up shots showing the band performing in a white room or a basement. I had two ideas for showing the band playing instruments because I thought the white room would give a clear focus on the band and so the audience would not get distracted by the background. My second choice was the basement because in my opinion it would show how they used to practise songs together. The next scene is at a park, showing all the band members messing about and having fun. This would also show that the target audience may be for girls from the age of 16-18 years old because they may be attracted to the way they act when they are not performing on stage. Moreover, the last scene is in a bar where the lead singer meets a girl who comes up to him and says "I like your music" and he replies saying "I like your face". I have decided not to choose this song for my music video because, I have found a song with a lot more beat and so it is easy to get more shots in the music video and keep it fast pass. I also think that this song was slow and I also did not like the pop elements of the song. Furthermore, the ideas I had for the music video did not match the song. In my opinion, the ideas where better then the song and so the song would have looked out of place with the music video.

End Credits by Chase and status ft. Plan B

In my animatic to shows how I have thought about the band identity and how their genre would be reflected in their music video. I have taken some inspiration from existing music videos such as quick picture type shots shown in End credits by chase and status ft. Plan B.

Moving to New York by The Wombats

Some of my inspiration for my music video has come from Moving to New York by The Wombats. I have wanted my music video to be similar to this because the genre is comparable to my chosen song. From this video, I have embraced the harmonious shots of the band, to show and reflect their personality. I feel that this would be a good technique to draw audiences to watch the music video because it would give laughter.

Below are a few photographs some of the drawing that are included in my animatic.

Above is an extreme shot of the guitar being played. I intend to use this in my music video because I have found that most music videos in this genre tend to have close ups of instruments being played. This would also show their audience their skill at playing the instruments and how well they are capable of playing. In particular, this is mostly done in Viva La Vida by Coldplay which is where I found some of my inspiration from.

Viva la Vida by Coldplay

I wanted to put the name of the band on the drums so that their audience would recognise the name of the band and creating a band identity. Their name would act as a logo for the band. Moreover, the handwriting style on the drums would become recognisable throughout the music video.

The long shot shows behind the band, I have seen this technique in one of the Arctic Monkey's video. I want to include this into my music video because I think that is effective and mysterious. It would let the audience feel as though they are on stage with the band performing. It will also allow the audience to see what the band can see. Below is a screen shot of the Arctic Monkeys music video to show where the inspiration has from.

In my music video, I wanted to include shots of the band messing about, playing football and just having a good time. This would reflect their personality to their audience and show them what they get up to other then creating music.

Here is another shot from my animatic of a different location, in the bar. This would show where the band member met a girl as it is mentioned in the song.

Lyrics to my First chosen song

Karolina By The Scandal

You said my music,
It's got flavour.
But if you saw my girl
It's gunna save you...

I was sitting in a tiny bar
And when you came running
Massive gosh
You said, 'I like your music'
I said 'Ilike your face'
------------------------
--------------------

You said my music,
It's got flavour
It's got flavour (said by all members of the band)
But if you saw my girl
It's gunna save you
This is bad behaviour ( all members)

It's been six hours now
And I've had enough
And you did my ---
You called my bluff
Said I like your music
You said I like your taste
It's getting awful red now
I'm going away

You said my music
It's got flavour
It's got flavour (all members)
But if you saw my girl
It's gunna save you
This is bad behaviour (all members)

You save it all for later
And save me
And save me (all members)
And you will forever be my
Baby, baby, baby, baby

(Instrumental)

Below is the song in which I have written the lyrics for above.

By listening to the song repeatedly I have been able to come up with a concept for my music video. These ideas have been shown through the animatic for this song.

I first chose this song because I thought that it would be easy to work with because the song is repetitive. However, because the song is slow to start of with it is hard to engage the audience with the start of the music video.

By listening to this song my initial ideas where to show the band messing about, having a good time and show them as rebels going around in shopping trolleys, playing football. I also wanted to show the lead singer in a bar. This I found difficult to do as the main problem was filming in a bar. But to solve this, I also thought of setting up my own bar with jazzy wallpaper on two boards and a small round table and a pint of beer to give the atmosphere that they are in a bar to the audience.
